Older Brother: Responsible, or a Bully?

Image
Image via Wikipedia Here is a report that says something about older brothers. My older brothers weren't, so will the number of children studied really a sufficient part of the whole to be considered a representative of all? Anyway, read on... ----- Older Brothers More Likely to Bully FRIDAY, Nov. 5 ( HealthDay News) — Older brothers are more likely than older sisters to bully younger siblings, a new study finds. Italian researchers looked at 195 children, aged 10 to 12, who had siblings that were no more than four years older or younger. How to thwart a bully

Image
Image via Wikipedia By Dr Bill Maier Children don’t always know how to deal with a bully , and parents don’t always know what to say to them. Mums tend to think that walking away is the best approach, while Dad might tell junior to fight back. But neither approach is very helpful to a child who’s being picked on by a kid twice his size. The best approach is a proactive one. Begin by contacting the school and making sure they’re aware of the problem. Ask them to have someone monitor the playground and try to catch the bully in the act. Chances are he’s terrorising a number of children , not just your child. Then, encourage your son or daughter to get involved in several school clubs or groups. Bullies tend to target those who have few friends, and the more children they hang out with, the less chance they’ll have of being harassed. An increasing number of studies have found that violence on television frequently leads later to aggressive behaviour by children and teenagers. One of the most conclusive studies was conducted by Dr Leonard D Aaron. His studies showed that the more frequently the participants watched violent television at the age of 8, the more serious were the crimes that they were convicted of by the age of 30 and the more aggressive was their behaviour when drinking. It is time for parents to control the amount and the content of television their children are watching. The consequences of not do...
