The Man Who Would Not Lead His Family

Image
I was looking for some leadership articles, and at the same time, something that may be applicable to the family as well. Look what I found; lifted from Ezine article directory. This is my 1,200th post, by the way. Read on, and be blessed! ----- The Man Who Would Not Lead His Family by Angie Lewis "My husband won't lead the family in bible study or prayer . He won't even discipline the children . What can I do?" "Is your husband a Christian?" "Oh, yes." She replied. "Have you talked with your husband about how you feel?" "Yes, I have told him until I am blue in the face about his lack of support in the home." "Well, that's the problem. You're telling him what he should do rather than allowing him to appreciate what his God -given responsibilities are. When a wife is bossy or naggy with her husband it makes him feel like a child. But he isn't married to his mother. You should allow your husb...

When Kids Fib

Image
Image via Wikipedia By Dr Bill Maier IS THERE anything quite as frustrating as catching your little angel in a lie? All kids tell fibs from time to time – some worse than others. And as parents, it’s important that we head the problem off before it becomes a habit. Kids who learn that they can get away with little lies, often begin telling bigger lies, which can lead to major problems later in life. Before acting too harshly, remember that there’s a very thin line between fantasy and reality in the mind of a preschooler. But kids who are clearly lying to get out of trouble need to be held accountable. Explain to them how important a person’s word is. If it happens again, don’t be afraid to punish them. Honesty is a critical virtue, and the time to instill that trait is while kids are still young. Communicating with Word Pictures

Image
Image by billnwmsu via Flickr By Dr James Dobson You talk and talk , but your husband just doesn't seem to get the point. Have you ever felt that happening? Maybe it's time to try a new way of explaining how you feel. One very effective way to communicate your feelings is to paint a word picture. A good friend once told me how one such word picture actually changed the lives of a married couple he knows. The wife was feeling distressed because her husband would come home from work and clam up. She told her husband a story about a man who goes out to breakfast with some good friends. He eats a big breakfast and then gathers some of the crumbs and throws them into a bag. Then he goes to lunch with some other friends, eats a big steak, and again throws a couple of crumbs into a bag. Then when he comes home at night, he hands his wife the bag. His wife told him, "That's what it feels like you are doing. All day long the children and I wait to talk with you, but do you k...

Try making a game out of it

Image
Image via Wikipedia By Dr James Dobson When you try to teach your young child to be responsible and you just don't get anywhere, what can you do? Well, many times turning a teaching situation into a game is the best way to get results. Sometimes, kids have a hard time learning and remembering the things their parents tell them. It's not that they're trying to be rebellious — they simply forget to hang up the towel or to come to dinner on time. In cases like this, you might try making a game out of it. Kids love all sorts of contests and games, especially if adults will play along with them. If you're struggling to teach your kids a lesson in responsibility and you're not getting anywhere, try turning it into a game, and see how little fun can make a child eager to learn. Giving your kids your best

Image
By Dr Bill Maier You know , so many of us parents get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life and take our kids for granted. Especially when it is so simple to let them know how much we care. When your child talks to you, make sure they have your full attention. Get down to their eye level, and smile as you answer them. Let them know that you're interested in what they have to say. When they tell you a joke, laugh with them. Tell them one of your own — preschoolers love "knock knock" jokes! Introduce your children to friends when you see them at church or the grocery store . So often we forget this simple courtesy when it comes to our kids, but it lets them know that they're an important part of the family . It's not that hard to let our kids know how much we value them, but it does take a little extra thought.
