Growing With Problems

(Taken from Sunburst, September 2000 issue; a publication by Singapore Technologies)

Born Free. But our minds are clogged with day-to-day worries.

Free your mind. That’s easy to say. Problems today seem part and parcel of our lives. We want less of it and yet some say problems can actually be good for us!

Here’s why.

Tour guides regularly take visitors to view the Great Barrier Reef which stretches some 1,800 miles from New Guinea to Australia. During one such tour, the guide was asked an interesting question. “I notice that the lagoon side of the reef looks pale and lifeless, while the ocean side is vibrant and colourful,” a traveller observed. “Why is this so?”

The guide’s answer was rather interesting:

“The coral around the lagoon side is in still water, with no challenge to its survival. Hence it dies early. However the coral on the ocean side is constantly tested by wind, waves and storms. It has to fight for survival every day of its life. As it is challenged and tested, it changes and adapts. It grows healthy. It grows strong. And it reproduces.”

The he added: “that’s the way it is with every living organism.”

And it’s the same with people! Challenged, tested and stretched to our limits, we come alive! Like corals pounded by the sea, we grow! Physical demands cause us to grow stronger. Mental and emotional stress produces toughness and resilience while spiritual testing builds strength of character and fortitude.

So, whenever you encounter problems, even seemingly unsurmountable ones, just tell yourself, “There I grow again!”

This really is 'food for thought'!!!

A holy man was having a conversation with the Lord one day and said, "Lord, I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like." The Lord led the holy man to two doors.

He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked inside. In the middle of the room was a large, round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew, which smelled delicious and made the holy man's mouth water.

The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles that were strapped to their arms and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful. But because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths.

The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering.

The Lord said, "You have seen Hell."

They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one. There was the large, round table with the large pot of stew which again made the holy man's mouth water. The people were equipped with the same long-handled spoons, but here the people were well nourished and plump, laughing and talking. The holy man said, "I don't understand."

It is simple," said the Lord. "It requires but one skill. You see they have learned to feed each other, while the greedy think only of themselves."

When Jesus died on the cross, He was thinking of you. It is estimated that 93% won't forward this. If you are one of the 7% who will, forward this with the title "7%".

I'm in the 7%.

Remember I will share my spoon with you.

Friend of God

The All-Knowing, All-Powerful, Creator of the Universe wants to be your friend.

He wants to walk with you and talk with you and share life with you.

That’s why He created you—first and foremost, for fellowship.

It’s as simple as opening your heart of faith to Him.

If you have faith in Jesus today then, just like Abraham, you are God’s friend.

And the Bible says that God is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.

That means He is faithful. He will never leave you. He will never forsake you.

He is with you always. He is mindful of you—that means He is always thinking of you,

as the Bible declares, His thoughts upon us outnumbers the sands in the beach.

What an honor and privilege it is to be called God’s friend!

Let that sink down into our hearts today.

The next time the enemy tries to tell us that we are alone in this world,

or that no one else understands what we are going through, we can say out loud, “I am a friend of God.”

With God as our friend, He’ll walk forward with us down the path of victory meant for you and me.

(James 2:23).

“Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness,

and he was called God’s friend.”

Positive Approach

Positive Approach

Father : I want you to marry a girl of my choice.

Son : "I will choose my own bride!"

Father : "But the girl is Bill Gates's daughter."

Son : "Well, in that case...OK"

Next day…

Father approaches Bill Gates.

Father : "I have a husband for your daughter."

Bill Gates : "But my daughter is too young to marry!"

Father : "But this young man is a vice-president of the World Bank."

Bill Gates : "Ah, in that case... OK"

Finally Father goes to see the president of the World Bank.

Father: "I have a young man to be recommended as a vice-president."

President : "But I already have more vice- presidents than I need!"

Father : "But this young man is Bill Gates's son-in-law."

President : "Ah, in that case... OK"

This is how business is done!!

Moral: Even if you have nothing, you can get anything. But your attitude & approach should be positive.
