Parents who lose a baby can die of a broken heart

This is just sad... ----- Posted: 08 September 2011 PARIS: Parents who lose a new baby run a high risk themselves of dying prematurely, according to a British study published on Thursday. Investigators delved into a random sample of national death registrations for the years 1971 to 2006. They compared deaths among parents who had been bereaved in the first year of a child's life or whose child had been stillborn, against deaths among parents whose baby had survived beyond the first year. Bereaved parents were between two and four times likelier to die or become widowed in the first 10 years of the child's death compared with non-bereaved counterparts. Mothers in particular were at threat. Bereaved mothers in England and Wales were four times likelier to die prematurely, and bereaved mothers in Scotland six times likelier, than women whose child had survived beyond the first year of life. The risk for mothers lessened slightly over time, but was still si...

Parental Trust

By Dr Bill Maier All teenagers want to be trusted by their parents. But trust is something you earn, not demand. A counsellor once asked a group of teenagers: “How many of you consider yourselves to be honest with your parents?” Not one hand went up. When she asked why, one student answered: “I don’t actually lie; I just don’t tell them all the facts.” Sadly, a lot of teenagers have the same attitude. And they then complain when their parents do not trust them. But trust is a precious gift, and you have to work to gain it. You begin by developing a habit of telling the truth, no matter how painful it may be, even if you have to suffer consequences. And when you give your word, always follow through. When your plans change, call home to let your family know. And take care of things you borrow. It’s the little things each day that build trust between children and their parents. Once developed, trust seldom diminishes. From TODAY, Voices – Friday, 03-Jul-2009 Related a...

I never thought I'd be...

Back in the olden days, when we were young (or younger), we’d do a lot of things, mainly because our old folks tell us to, partly as part of our studies, partly as part of peer pressure , and still partly due to our curiosity as growing kids who would explore anything on sight and anything within reach. To be exact, what would make our parents and abuelos and abuelas scream is when we explore things within sight, but beyond our reach… you know what I mean. That should bring a memory or two, and lots of smiles. At this point I call to mind one area of my childhood activities. A regular church activity. We sang. We sing. We've rendered a Solo, a Duet, a Trio, a Quartet, or a Choir. There's even a Male Group. And as in most cases of singing, we sing other peoples’ compositions. It never occurred to me that I’d be singing my own songs , never thought that I’d be composing songs, to be sung by me, or by other singers . Unleash Your Inner Psychic!
