Blessing Your Children

Image
By Dr Bill Maier Looking for some creative ways to make your kids feel special? Here are some ideas to consider. Every year on your child’s birthday, write a letter telling them how much they mean to you. Mention specific ways that they bring joy and laughter into the world. Write about their gifts and talents, and how you believe that they have a bright future. Then keep all the letters in an album and present it to them on their 13th birthday. How about keeping a journal for each child? Write down those funny or bright things they say each day. Make sure you include long passages explaining how much you love them. Then pass the journal on to them when they leave for university or move out of the house. These are just two great ways to bless your children . And you’ll be giving them memories that they’ll treasure forever. Be there, Dad!

Image
This is a Father's Day post, and while late, i still would want to send out the greetings to all fathers out there: Happy Father's Day. Be blessed as a father , and be a blessing today! ----- By Dr James Dobson I’m told that when I was just a child — maybe two years of age — my family lived in a one-bedroom apartment. My little bed was located beside the bed of my parents. My father said it was common during that time for him to awaken at night to a little voice whispering: “Daddy? Daddy? Daddy?” My father would answer quietly: “What, Jimmy?” And I would say: “Hold my hand!” And Dad would reach across the darkness and grope for my little hand, finally engulfing it in his. He later said that the instant he had my hand firmly in his grip, my arm would become limp and my breathing deep and regular. I had immediately fallen back to sleep. You see, I only wanted to know that he was there! Until the day he died, I continued to reach for him — for his assurance, for his g...

Helping around the house

Image
By Dr Bill Maier Hey dad ... still think raising babies is a mother ’s job? Well think again! The days where mum does all the work at home while dad sits back in his recliner are long gone. Taking care of kids is a tough job and it’s a father’s job to step in and help. Instead of plopping in your chair at the end of the day, why not roll up your sleeves and give mum a hand around the house. And don’t wait for her to ask you. Look for things that need doing — like laundry or dishes or vacuuming. Sometimes what she needs most is a little adult conversation — especially after playing with a two-year-old all day. Why not make her a cup of tea , find a comfortable chair and ask her about her day? Trust me, she’ll love you for it! While you’re at it, let her know how much you appreciate all the things she does for you and the kids. Time for Teens

Image
By Dr James Dobson There are times in every family when rules and restrictions must be imposed, even during the teen years . But let me make this point emphatically: Rules without relationship lead to rebellion. Family psychologist and author Dr Kevin Leman tells of the time he had to leave on a trip just a day or two before Valentine’s Day. His wife Sandy remarked over the phone that their teenage daughter had received a letter of acceptance from the university she wanted to attend. Dr Leman decided that this event was worth some extra attention. He called a florist and ordered a dozen pink sweetheart roses for his daughter. The next evening when he called home, his daughter got on the phone to thank him from the bottom of her heart. She said: “When I saw the delivery man at the door, I knew the flowers had to be for Mum, on Valentine’s Day. But then I saw my own name on them and thought, my goodness, they must be from my boyfriend. But, Daddy, they were from you. And that’...

A TRUE LOVE STORY

Image
And this one story, though it will be covered over by the passing years, its relevance will always be fresh… man's heart is always a heart of flesh, whether the clothes worn outside will someday go back to metallic sheets and plates… ---------- By Dr James Dobson Every now and then , I come across a love story worth remembering. Let me share one with you that you may have read about in Reader's Digest . It began when a man named Kim met a young woman named Kris Ann. Her nickname was Kricket. The two instantly connected. In April 1993, Kim proposed. They were married that September. Ten weeks later, tragedy struck. A serious car accident left Kricket in a coma . Doctors expected her to die, but, to everyone's surprise, she survived. Unfortunately, her memory was severely damaged. Through time, she recalled bits and pieces of her life, but the last year was wiped from her consciousness, including all memories of Kim and their wedding. But Kim refused to give up. He decided...
