WINE COUNTRY UP IN FLAMES

A DC-10 tanker dropping fire retardant over a fire in Green Valley on Sunday. Bone-dry terrain in California is under threat from hundreds of wildfires. One fire had spread across nearly 15.5 sq km in Napa County and Solano County. The blaze threatened more than 100 buildings and destroyed one home. Evacuations were ordered for some residents. Fire-fighters were also battling fires in southern New Mexico. Wildfires have destroyed more than 175 homes in Northern California so far this year. California’s unofficial fire season began in the middle of last month, following the state’s driest two-month period.
